QUESTION: What’s the bullying like at (her high school)?

ANSWER FROM A RISING JUNIOR: It’s really bad but I think people are really used to it now so they try not to let it bother you. Its like it’s become an everyday thing

QUESTION: In what regard? How does it manifest itself, how does it show?

ANSWER FROM A RISING JUNIOR: I don’t know. People can yell things down the hallway and get someone’s attention, and they will just call them vulgar names. It’s just become a part of everyday life….that’s it.

Does anyone else see the profound statement of this rising junior from Carteret County? Does anyone else have a problem with the fact that these kids think that this is just a part of everyday life???? I ask KIDS, no matter where they live, do you agree with this girls statement, or disagree? ADULTS-do you see this as a problem?

Honestly, sometimes i think people do not see how mean the things they say are! I think that alot of people don't bully other people just to be mean i think that they do it just to fit in with a certain clique or to impress somebody and when they see it gets the other persons attention the person they bullied soon becomes a target for them to "impress" their so called friends. From the person who is being bullied perspective i do agree tht it does seem to be like a daily routine for them to be teased and taunted. They learn to eventually except it because even when they confide in a teacher or friend and are brave enough to admit that they are being bullied often the teacher or friend is to busy to listen to what you have to say. Since the person who is being bullied has nobody to listen to them they often keep to themselves and when they do it can cause serious mental damage. When someone is getting bullied the things that are said can become an echo in there head and they will hear it in there head even when they are alone and will soon start beleiving the nasty things people say about them. Bottom line is that you don't know how your actions can affect somebody else and also even if a person doesnt listen to what you have to say there is always somebody else who will. It's always bad to keep things inside you because one day you might do something that you will regret and you will look back on whatever you did and just wish you would have told somebody and gotten help I am speaking from experience on that part

i agree that there is some MAJOR bullying going on in schools and its horrible how bad it has gotten over the years. bullying should not be a part of someones every day life. a kid or even a teen should not be scared to go to school because they no bullies are there waiting to bully him. this is a problem that should be fixed and i think it should be watched more than what it really is. bullying is a very serious thing and if we dont take care of it now who will?

most of the people who get bullied are kids who are just different and they havent even done anything to the kids who bully them. the kids who bully at our school are mainly just kids who think they are better than everyone else. the kids who take the bullying are kids who dont know how to stand up for themselves or are to scared to. people have killed themselves over it and the bullying in my school is bad. i think it is so sad that people just cant get along and i think we should have the challenge day at our school because it would help us so much.

bullying has very much taken place in our school. kids bully eachother from different "clicks" s/a~populars, band geeks, nerds, jocks, punks, rednecks, and a couple more. not everyone understands eachother and the problems that we each face, someone may be picked on for their choice of clothing. well not everyone has the money for the nice namebrand outfits. most of us face the same obstacles being teenagers going thru highschool, but we dont take the chance to talk to others and find out. ive recently watched this show called "if you really knew me" where they take all the stereotypes of the whole school. each episode focuses on a different school, where students go through a program called Challenge Day. They share experiences with each other in exercises designed to cut down on bullying and gossiping. i think every school should go thru the exercises they do with these schools, and see how much of a difference it makes in the school, and community!

People say that we'll never get rid of bullying from our schools. Consider this, hazing used to be a tradition on college campuses; today, it's illegal.

We are putting bullying in the history books!

Bullying is very wrong i do agree, many people bully others it makes them feel better BUT IT IS WRONG! you should not b scared to go get your education because of bullies its sad that some people are scared, schools need to start paying more attention to bullying, when people are bullied their put down and can feel worthless for schools that are always saying we have talents, and are smart they should see how the bullying woyuld affect us.

Sexual harrassment was an everyday occurance in the workplace until just a few years ago and then one person stood up and said "enough". Now most employers conduct training, have established policies and take a very dim view of a practice that until just recently was viewed as part of "everyday life". African American members of the community were harrassed, beaten and killed not more than 50 years ago all throughout the south until someone stood up and said "enough". Up until the civil rights movement that was just part of everyday life in the south and now race crimes are illegal. It takes courage and conviction to stand against something and to say that a behavior that has accepted as "just part of life" is no longer acceptable. Courage is being afraid, but going on anyhow. Courage is simply not one of the virtues, but all of the virtues at a testing point. Courage is not the absence of fear, but rather the judgement that something else is more important than fear. Let us have the courage to stand against something more important that just accepting a lot in life as a matter of destiny for our future. The future is ours to shape into what we want to become, not to be resigned to what others think we are.
